The Great Puddle Search

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots is on a mission.

A mission to find the perfect splashing puddle.

His search leads him far and wide.

But it starts here.  Here at the first drain pipe:

But this drain pipe will not splash.  Even the rock cannot make a splash:

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots continues his search.

He follows the gray road to the right.  He finds another puddle:

But while the newest puddle offers some small splashes it is not enough.

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots spots something across the Black Abyss.

He spots quite possibly the perfect puddle.

He must go:

This puddle passes even the walk test:

But perhaps the perfect splash is not all there is.

Perhaps a puddle should also have something more.

Something like specks and bubbles:

But not even the perfect puddle is truly perfect.  For the Black Abyss is not safe.

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots must evacuate when the white beast stampedes through.

Perhaps the second drain pipe will be more splash worthy than the first:

Only the rock test can reveal this drain pipe's splashiness:

The second drain pipe also fails the rock test.

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots fears that his search is all for naught.

There is no perfect splashing puddle.

And then... and then.

The third drain pipe appears as if by magic.

The third drain pipe passes the rock test with flying colors:

The search is over.

He of the Green Frog Rain Boots has found a perfect (rock) splashing puddle.

Testing... Testing... 1. 2. 3.

So, it's a rainy day.

You're four and you just got brand new rain boots.

What are you going to do?

Test the boots!  Of course!

Are they working properly?

Yes!  Plus they match the sidewalk!

Time for the final test.

Success!  Mommy was splashed!

Hopping In The Rain

Today the weather shifted and we had some very light rain.  Light enough that I let the boys play outside.

Light enough that we could successfully use sidewalk chalk to create a hopscotch game:

The boys were very excited to do a little hopscotchin':

McColley is getting much better at staying inside the boxes (and considering how small I drew them, that's a big accomplishment!):

Brayton also gave it a go... but he's not up to one-legged jumping yet:

A Park Experiment

What happens when you set the camera on 'picture burst', hand it to a toddler and ask him to take pictures of Mommy and McColley having a slide race?

This:

Isn't he the best little photographer?!

Clinging To Summer

Today it was 88 degrees outside.  Autumn?  Me thinks not.

Since it still feels like summer, we decided to do summer things.

The boys rode their bikes...

ringing all the way...

to the playground...

where the most fun activity was pushing Mommy on the swing.

Once that got boring, McColley decided to try a little off-roading.

The bark was a failure:

As was the grass:

Luckily we could just take the sidewalk all the way home!

Look What I Can Do!

Heck Yeah! I'm up here with just a little Mommy help.

Oh!  Did you see that?  No!  Well check it out - I'm up another step.
All. by. my. self.

What?  Don't believe me?
Check this out - I'm going for another one.

This is what you call splitting the difference.

And here's where I make the big move - changing my center of gravity.

Oh heck yeah.  I can totally do this without any more help.
Check. me. out.

Just in case...

Daddy wondered why...

I am only giving the couch...

five more years...

before it gets...

irreparably...

broken.

I think my estimate might be generous.

The Maguire Gallery Proudly Presents...

Time Capsule
by
A Seven Year Old Katharine

Baby Sister with Bottle

Baby Sister Is Now a Toddler

Mommy Unpacks

The artist took these pictures over a multi-month period surrounding the family's move to LaC.enter.

The artist rediscovered these pictures preparing for a family move.  These are the best three pictures off of the roll.

The artist would like to thank digital technology - her eldest son had a better photographic eye at three than she did at seven. All thanks to practice.

Sunny Imagination

Today I took Ge.orge Washi.ngton III:

and Lil' BrayT to the park:

Once they were done riding their wild steeds, it was time to do some archeological work.

George Washin.gton III handled digging while Lil' BrayT was in charge of sifting:

When the hats got too hot the boys abandoned their alter egos. We headed for the woods and a little shade:

Cooled off and ready for more adventure Brayton resumed his usual activity - copying McColley to the best of his ability:

Ready to leave the park we headed towards the parking lot... and ran into the smartest ice cream truck EVER.  We couldn't pass by without getting a small vanilla sprinkle:
